Excuse my French, but doesn't the word for fish appear to be telling us something in English?
The "o" in "poisson" and all the images on the back are chemical
and alchemical symbols for mercury.
Technique info:
Incised layered slip - I paint layer upon layer of slip (liquid colored clay) inside these bowls to create a
multicolor stata. Once the slips set-up to a consistency conducive to carving, I cut back through the slips
creating different color fields, attempting to carve back to the desired color, but no deeper. It is a technique
designed to be imperfect with a planned for, but unplanned, mottling that happens when I "go outside the lines."
